Atlantic Shores Baptist Church

Virginia Beach | VA

In 2018, Atlantic Shores Baptist Church, determined that they were ready for some facilities support. Through our EquipLABS process, we determined that the three biggest needs as facility was a clear/prominent front door entrance, a floor plan with clear navigation/wayfinding, and refreshed children’s spaces.

The design of this new Virginia Beach facility now includes three intuitive, primary entrances. The first entrance serves the primary worship auditorium, offers a place for fellowship, and connects to the family lobby via the Global Missions Gallery (used to showcase the church’s presence throughout community and abroad). An adjacent café and courtyard also provide further space for fellowship. The second entrance serves the family lobby—a spacious check-in area featuring a monumental stair that effortlessly directs older age groups up to the elementary mezzanine. The third and final primary entrance is oriented toward the major intersection of Centerville Turnpike and Kempsville Road. A tall cross element highlights this prominent corner near the entrance and filters natural light down into an adjacent prayer room.

Aside from the logistical upgrades, the new design features plenty of high windows that bathe the space in natural light. The primary worship auditorium, fellowship hall, and the existing children’s spaces will also see some exciting new improvements.
